Replied on March 31, 2023. Report abuse. Hi Jason, I'm John D, and I am an independent advisor. Thank you for your message regarding CCleaner's safety and effectiveness. It's true that CCleaner was once hijacked by hackers, but the developers have taken measures to ensure the security of the software, and it is now considered safe to use.
You can use Disk Cleanup, win+R > > Select All > Delete, win+R > > Select All > Delete, win+R > > Select All > Delete. And the cherry on the cake: Windows Debloater. By the way CCleaner is not snake oil, because it can delete unused and wrong registry keys. The thing is, unused or wrong registry keys are one in the same.
5.40.0.6411.0 is the last non-spyware version of CCleaner, before it was bought by Avast 19 July 2017. v5.40.0.6411.0 was a version number cited by someone on the CCleaner forums. Report abuse. CCleaner is fine. It is completely safe as long as you don't us its registry cleaning functionality. CCleaner's registry cleaning is much safer that that of other registry cleaners, bot none of them is completely safe. Moreover, none of them are needed. However, most of what Cleaner does isn't needed.
CCleaner also offers to create a backup of the registry before making alterations, which is something that should always take plans when altering a registry (especially by hand). If you were to end up with unexpected or hard to debug issues, it’s trivial to return to the way it was - though i’d be willing to bet that you’d still have the ...
BleachBit is a good open source alternative for CCleaner’s cleaning function. BleachBit doesn’t perform CCleaner’s other functions, such as registry cleaning, which I wouldn’t recommend doing anyway. 14. Cicorie.
