Finder is exclusively on Mac computers, not iPads or iPhones. iTunes used to be an app on Mac computers but is currently only on Windows PCs. It cannot be installed on an iPad or iPhone. In Finder, open the 'Go' menu and choose 'Go to Folder…' In the window that appears, enter '~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates' Here you'll see the download and be able to check/remove when it's done. I would disconnect the iPhone and Restart both, the iMac and the iPhone. Then reconnect the iPhone and see if the Helper Download panel is presented.
If so, hover over it and make sure the arrow immediately to the right is pointing down. If not, then click it to reveal those items. If Downloads is still missing from you sidebar, try simply opening a new Finder window, navigating to the Downloads folder and drag that folder to the sidebar. It should create a shortcut on the sidebar.
Still no Finder, no wallpaper, etc. Then the Dock fills in. Finder does not respond. Then finally wallpaper. Relaunching the Finder in the dock makes the menu bar disappear. I wait. I click the menu bar and the Safari menu appears. I open Safari using the dock (Safari is still not yet open by the way, only shows it as active in the menu bar)
While using Adobe software, when I go to save or place an image, the finder window appears blank until I restart the computer. And, my computer won't turn off except with a hard turn off. I'm using an older iMac with 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
In finder, there is never an option to update or reset the IPOD. The IPOD is always stuck "Loading" software. There is no ability to sync media on the IPOD. A similar IPOD works, has update options, and syncs, so I assume it is a problem with the IPOD. I tried downloading Apple's Shuffle Reset program, but it says it needs to be updated.
