There is a considerable range in 'khaki' material, even in WWII issue uniforms. I've owned myriad WWII khaki shirts and pants, and the ones I've hung onto are all wool, not cotton. True tropical khaki uniforms are actually made from a very lightweight worsted wool, which, when held up to sunlight, has an almost transparent quality.

The '37 Pattern BD khaki was different from '40 Pattern, the serge BD from the denim, KD from webbing, GS cap from blouse etc, etc. All called 'Khaki', all different.
