So I recently wanted to get my desktop player at Ultra HD, but couldn't through the web player. After searching the entire internet, I couldn't find a solid answer as to whether there actually WAS a mac desktop app. People mentioned it, but there was ZERO trace of it on amazon.com.

So, the audio quality on desktop app is horrible. On the web app is ok, just installed the app for the first time and played the same song on web and then desktop, bitrate seems way lower on the desktop. What I tried so far: Changed the quality option to "best" in setttings. Allowed the Amazon Music app to take exclusive control over playback ...

I did buy an Apple 4k TV just for the Amazon music atmos and it doesn’t work either. lol (tried Roku ultra that my friend owns, didn’t work either.) Went ahead and Apple Music is actually not bad. No way to add artist in app for me. You follow an artist but then you goto library and artists and nothing there. Currently have to search for bands and songs from memory or refer to Spotify list.
Here is a work around to get 24/96 with Amazon music. Microsoft Edge browser supports 24/96, Safari does not. Go to the Amazon Music website, open the Web Player link at top right and set the page as your home start-up page in Edge. Then Edge will open directly to music. It worked for me using a M2 Mac mini. Good luck.
