If full intensity for one projector is 1, then a primary color has a combined intensity of 1. A secondary color has a total intensity of 2. White has a total intensity of 3. Tinting, or "adding white", increases the total intensity of the hue. While this is simply a fact, the HSL model will take this fact into account in its design.

Special-purpose color spaces. The rg chromaticity space is used in computer vision applications, and shows the color of light (red, yellow, green, etc.), but not its intensity (dark, bright). LMS color space (long, medium, short), a perceptual color space based on the response functions of the cones in the retina of the eye.
A "color space" is a useful conceptual tool for understanding the color capabilities of a particular device or digital file. When trying to reproduce color on another device, color spaces can show whether shadow/highlight detail and color saturation can be retained, and by how much either will be compromised.

In colorimetry, the Munsell color system is a color space that specifies colors based on three properties of color: hue (basic color), value ( lightness ), and chroma (color intensity).
In HSL color space, on the other hand, only white can have a lightness of 100%. HSV should not be used on new articles because it does not provide any information beyond sRGB. See also HSL and HSV § Disadvantages. This coordinate system is problematic, because programs that accept this system use several different ranges of numbers on input.
