Side note and totally anecdotal but the Rayovacs honestly surprised me a bit considering they are made in China. Battery age is useful in determining application, cycles, usage, and general health of a battery, for example I use older or "tired" batteries with high cycle counts for low drain devices like remotes or a computer mouse.

Sep 13, 2009. #2. Energizer had (still has?) a patent that prevented other companies from marketing and selling Lithium AA & AAA cells in North America. Rayovac attempted to bring some into the NA market last year and was promptly taken to court by Energizer. Apparently some of Energizer's lithium patents have expired.

One move Energizer made was to slash the price they charge for ultimate lithiums to retailers helped move a bunch of those last year. But it was probably too little too late for those. A cost of $2.50 each was reduced to a buck 35 but still too high for the typical battery buyer when they can get 24 Rayovacs for $11 versus 8 for $12.
