The iPad Air2 does not support iPadOS16.x. While the iPad Air2 cannot be updated to iPadOS16, your iPad is still supported - and still receives essential security updates.

It should not lag or feel noticeably slower than it does right now with iPadOS 15.5. Its not a major update, so should not change much in terms of performance.
