CMSRock. By the time they pull the unit, disassemble, clean the housing, buy the wear parts, put it back together, install it and test that is what it takes. It's a skilled labor job and you are looking at a shop rate of $80-$120 per hour depending on where you are located.

As expensive as that is it is a brand new transmission that has about double the torque capacity of the NSG370. Got to agree with agalloch, I wouldn't spend that money to rebuild an NSG370.

No transmission concerns at the moment but I have read a lot of negative comments about issues with the 6 speed, especially in 2005-2006. I'm interested in personal experiences both ...
Greetings. I bought my 2010 Jeep JK new off the lot with a 6-speed manual transmission. Started popping out of first gear about two years after I bought it, and was told at the time this was normal behavior for a Jeep. NIne years later I can't even use first gear, and transmission "experts" have told me it can't be fixed.
In my opinion, it's not a do-it-yourself job (unless you know what you are doing) and it should go to a trans shop. It could also be a simple re-adjustment of the linkage too and that would be much cheaper to fix. Get a professional to evaluate it or deduct $1000 of the price to compensate for potential repairs.
The torque converter in the automatic also allows for some torque multiplication at low speeds, up to a factor of two. Both the current automatic and manual transmissions in use are durable and reliable. As mentioned the manual transmission has no auxiliary transmission cooler and is mechanically simpler.
