It is known by a number of common names, including common meadow violet, purple violet, woolly blue violet, hooded violet, and wood violet.
In the United States, the common blue violet Viola sororia is the state flower of Illinois, [94] Rhode Island, [95] New Jersey [96] and Wisconsin.
