Island Falls is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 758 at the 2020 census . [ 2 ] The primary village of Island Falls in the town is situated at a falls in the West Branch Mattawamkeag River .
One of the first settlers of the town of Island Falls was Levi Sewall, who arrived in 1842. His tenth child, William Wingate Sewall, was born in 1845, and was the community's first native-born resident. The younger Sewall made his home in the town for his entire life, working on Maine's logging drives until he was 75.
Maine State Route 159 has its eastern terminus at U.S. 2 in the center of Island Falls and leads west 10 miles (16 km) to Patten. In 1998 the Fore River Company out of Portland, Maine bought the building, renovated it for office space, and leased the old mill to the Sea Dog Brewing Company, who in turn, added a patio overlooking the Androscoggin River.
