(**) On 8/9/99, Remington stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. The date code was marked only on the end flap of the shipping box. Remington resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01. Only Remington can give an owner a DOM for a gun from this era, that carries no date code - via the gun's serial number.

Modern Remington barrels are stamped with a Date/Code, which denotes when it was made. Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington shotgun, on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture.

Everything that I have read has said that the 11-48 was designed in 1948 but was either manufactured or introduced in 1949. According to the date code charts I have seen, it places the date of manufacture as Oct. (E) of 1948 (TT).
Early Remington pre-11 date + general questions. I recently won a Remington Autoloading Shotgun, and in my opinion it is in beautiful shape for it's age. The only markings are the serial on the bottom of the receiver, the browning patents on the top of the barrel, and "FULL" indicating the choke on the left side of the barrel against the receiver.

This is a Model 11 with a magazine cut off similar to the Browning A5. The safety on Browning A5 were changed to the type three (behind the trigger) after WWII. From 1905 until 1911 Remington made the "Remington Repeating Shotgun". This was a predicessor to the Model 11. We will need alot more info to nail down the maker and date of your gun.
