    Alpha and Bravo calls are BLS dispatches as well as some Charlie calls. Most Charlie, all Delta and Echo calls are ALS dispatches. Any Delta or Echo call type requires 2 ALS level personnel (EMT-P or EMT-I) in any way ECC (dispatch) can do it based on call volume or units available.

    We use Alpha Baker Charlie Delta. Alpha is the front of the building, Baker the left side, Charlie the rear and Delta the right side. Floors are called as follows: Basement: basement division Floors are called divisions 1st floor: Division 1, 2nd floor: Division 2 etc. etc. Attic: attic division Roof: roof division (aka Truckie's roost! )

    Going clockwise, the alpha side is the front of the building. left side is bravo, rear is charlie, right is delta. Using a, b, c and d to describe the sides can be confusing , as b, c and d sound a lot alike.. add adrenalin and fireground noise, it becomes unintelligible gibberish.

    Medicals all depend on the call. They are rated omega, alpha, bravo, charlie, delta and echo based on severity. Something like an omega or alpha is usually someone who feels sick and doesn't require immediate attention. omega-bravo all get an ambulance. Charlie and delta get a paramedic engine and an ambulance or medic unit.

    FEMA/NFA name sides using Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta... A is the front, then the letters are assigned clockwise around the building. This was hammmered on during a class I returned from down there. Levels of buildings are assigned division numbers: 1 is the first floor, 10 is the tenth floor. Subdivisions can be used for levels below ground.

    Your guys should be trained to use phonetics anytime they are relaying single letters, or tricky words over the radio (or even P2P in a noisy environment). If your Officers don't like the idea of writing out Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, etc. Fine, just make sure they are using good radio techniques to eliminate any confusion.
