People Express Airlines (2010s) People Express Airlines (stylized as PEOPLExpress) was an airline that began operations on June 30, 2014 from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, targeting the no-frills budget flyer. The air carrier took its name from the original PEOPLExpress Airlines which operated in the 1980s but was unrelated.
In 1999, AirTran was serving the airport with four daily nonstop flights from Atlanta operated with McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 jets. [10] Delta Connection began service from Newport News to Atlanta in February 2002. The PAC renamed the facility Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport in September 1990.
