Mapquest started in 1996 which was the same year I started using a GPS with my laptop. However, I still printed out directions. The laptop/GPS was too much work for short trips, only worth the effort for long trips. Mapquest was used for trips about town.

The MapQuest classic route planner is not available anymore, well at least it wasn't the last time I checked, which was like 5 minutes ago. I don't know if the site is temporarily down or if they have removed it all together.
