After W140, it looked flimsy. And the panel gaps were horrible, you could almost slip your fingers between the headlight and the hood. Fortunately for MB, BMW produced an even more fugly car in E65. Add in 996, and that generation of cars is possibly the worst looking of the lot.
In my opinion, car attitude takes two forms: 1) The whole "right to own a car" attitude of the entire country - the personal freedom, the temporary "in command" feeling, etc. These are the people who, while they may not be the most aseertive or skilled behind the wheel, would die a thousand deaths without a car.
The Ford Pinto or the. Chevrolet Vega. Is the Vega used to be a reliable. transportation in the 70's. While neither car will make any top 100 list, the Vega has a disposable aluminum engine that with luck lasted 40,000 miles. The Pinto engine is still with us in its basic form. My vote goes to the mis-understood Pinto.
The GEO cars seem to last forever although most consider them "throwaways" Cars to avoid: Any Neon Most Hyundais and Kias Cars with power seats, windows - those darn motors fail giving you a 200+ repair 88-92 White Oldsmobiles - major rust problems I guess that my preference is for simple cars with few things that can go wrong.
