My workaround will be to continue to use StartPage and Ixquick from Opera's default start page. These search engines work now within Opera! After adding this search engine to Opera, you can search with it by placing an sp [space] and then your search term. Ixquick, below works in the same manner.
The initial-code for your search might be a "d" so any time you want to use it (assuming you don't download Disconnect Search and use it), then just go to the main address bar and type: d [space] and the search query. That does work. And you can add Ixquick and startpage the same way. You could just add a separate extension for DuckDuckGo
