Your TA is 300ppm, you want to lower it to 60ppm, in a 350 gal tub. To lower TA by 240 ppm you need to add a total of 2.4 cups (~19oz) dry acid. Turn jets/air on. Add 1 cup acid and Aerate 30mins. Check TA/pH. TA=200 and pH>8.0. Add 6 oz acid and Aerate 30mins. Check TA/pH. TA=125 and pH>8.0.

  3. Can't Get Ph Down - Hot Tub Water Chemistry - Pool and Spa Forum

If your pH is too high and won't come down, then your TA is too high. You would also get better results if you used muriatic acid rather than dry acid. Lowering Alkalinity. Well I just check and th PH finally dropped to 7.6. TA is at 60ppm. As for the muriatic acid, can I get that Home depot or a hardware store.

According to the pool calculator, you would need 0.4 ounces of 31.45% muratic acid to lower pH from 8.0 to 7.6. You don't need to set up a goal to use the calculator. Enter your spa size, current values (FC, pH, TA, Borates, CYA, etc) in the left column and target values in the right column. Quote.

In February 2 this year my old hot tub finally failed and could not be repaired so I purchased a new 265gal one. This came with a number of chemical additives and the initial fill instructions were: 9 tablespoons of alkalinity increaser, 90ml Silk Balance and 1.5 tablespoon of Spa Sanitizer chlorine powder. The temperature was set at 104F.

makailey1. I've noticed that those of us who use bromine seem to have a problem with the Total Alkalinity level dropping. Adding Alkalinity increaser alone does not help, as this is mostly used to raise the pH. I've taken some advice from others on this board after asking questions and used baking soda to raise my TA.

Reason I ask is that our tap water has a pH well over 8 with total alkalinity over 200ppm. Yesterday I added a total of 3 ounces dry acid. Today I added another 3 ounces dry acid. According to my Taylor test kit, the pH is still around 8.0 and the total alkalinity is 140-150ppm. Calcium Hardness is around 260ppm.

    6. Posted October 13, 2013. Hi. My water is very low Alkalinity (40-50) and high pH (~7.9 or 8). I can not seem to get the TA up to 80 and the pH down to 7.6. I am using baking soda (sodium bicarb) to increase alkalinity and Spa Down (sodium bisulphate) to bring pH down. bringing pH down brings TA down, bringing TA up brings pH up.

Posted February 8, 2008. Let's say that 2 cups of baking soda was added to 500 gallons (my guess for the size of a 7 person spa) and that the initial TA was 80. This would raise the TA to around 260 ppm. As for what happens with calcium carbonate saturation, that depends on the Calcium Hardness (CH).

  11. MPS Causing Itchy / red skin - Hot Tub Water Chemistry - Pool and...

Members. 5.3k. Posted March 16, 2020. Most skin irritation in a hot tub is the result of ph and alkalinity. Chlorine, bromine, mps all affect ph balance. Continuous feed systems, such as floaters, inline feeders, tablets in the filter well, and such will cause a continuous drag on the ph that is difficult to counter with once-a-week balancing.
