In 1999, AirTran was serving the airport with four daily nonstop flights from Atlanta operated with McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 jets. Delta Connection began service from Newport News to Atlanta in February 2002. The PAC renamed the facility Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport in September 1990. A new terminal opened in late 1992.
