As of 2020, only aluminum Rp50 coins dating from 1999 through 2003 remain legal tender, although it is rarely seen in circulation due to its extremely low value.

In the year or so prior, the Japanese money had been a vital conduit of Republican goods to the Dutch enclaves, but the decree brought this to an end: all Japanese money was to be deposited with Republic banks by 30 October 1946.
