I am terminating a #12 awg stranded wire on a Siemens QP type circuit breaker installed in a load center. The QP breaker has a screw type terminal. When making this connection some of the wire strands will push out from under the screw. The result is an inferior connection. I could tin the wire or install a ferrule.

\$\begingroup\$ No circuit breaker, fast or slow, can definitely stop the next one in the chain from tripping. If you apply a solid short circuit, you can trip all the way to the street. A massive short will draw several kA, and all the breakers in the row will start to trip.
There is a definition in Article 100, but essentially, if there is an accidental short circuit, the breaker will experience very high current for a short period of time and the interrupting rating is the tested conditions that the breaker has been put through to be sure it opens the circuit rather than catastrophically failing.
AF/AT are the same concept for Circuit Breakers, except Amp Frame / Amp Trip. Frame sizes vary a lot more from mfrs to mfr, so some have 100AF, some are 125AF, some only start at 150AF, etc. then in larger frames, some mfrs have dropped some old traditional frame sizes such as 600AF because their newer 800AF is the same physical size anyway.
Re: Circuit breaker AIC ratings Friebel, the Bussmann SPD you are talking about is available on line. By the way, the AIC that is marked on circuit breakers is a rating. In the smaller sized circuit breakers, if they received an actual bus shot at their rating, they would likely fail to open and destroy themselves.
