McPherson County, Kansas. / 38.4°N 97.7°W / 38.4; -97.7. McPherson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and largest city is McPherson. [ 3] As of the 2020 census, the county population was 30,223. [ 1] The county was named for James McPherson, a general in the American Civil War.
