I am a Part 107 holder, but at this time, for many reasons I fly recreationally 90+% of the time and stick to the recreationally rules when doing so. The way I see it, as I have State Farm insurance too, I acknowledge that they only cover recreational flight. So were I to have a crash flying recreationally I would have no issue filing a claim.
I saw my State Farm insurance agent today at lunch and asked him about Drone insurance. I told him I heard it was $60 and he knew about it as his brother has it . He was going to check into for me . He said it did say it included liability and replacement. I’ll keep you posted .
My personal experience with State Farm for the last 3 years has been nothing but positive. I filed my first claim earlier this year, for another item (a lot more expensive than Mavic 3) covered in the same policy, received the full reimbursement check by mail in a week.
Go with a 3rd Party like State Farm Drone Insurance and you're covered all around with all the DJI hassles. Probably cheaper than DJI as well. If anyone can get a 3rd party insurance, WHY would you get the more expensive and less covered DJI Refresh?
I have a phantom 4pro v 2.0 and a Mavic 2 Pro with that I bought pre owned on eBay.i contacted State Farm to purchase insurance under personal item and they said I needed the receipts for the drones for me to get coverage so I left.i didn’t ask if I could use purchases on my eBay and use that as a receipt.
However, the State Farm gig is quite reasonable. Not sure if this helps this second or not but its an option if you can plan ahead of time, fo sho. Last edited: Sep 22, 2022
The DJI is fine, but as cheap as State Farm typically is; no reason to spend more for insurance than you have to and DJI is usually more. I never used my "Refresh" I had on my Air2 - but had it before finding State Farm and a few others had drone insurance. Sadly, my carrier - USAA - does not offer it and won't cover under homeowners / etc.
I have my M2P and my Mini 2 both on State Farm and the annual total premium is $60. I also carry Care/Refresh for things that I wouldn't want to claim with SF as I regard State Farm's policy would be used solely form catastrophic loss of my M2P as I hear that they can cancel the entire policy after one claim.
I spoke with State Farm agent about that before. This is only a concern, if you have your house and drone insured under the same policy. For me, my house is insured with another insurance company, while my drone is with State Farm. A drone crash doesn't affect my home insurance at all.
I just got my Mavic the State Farm $60 Personal Articles Policy, so I should be good with that. However I was wondering if anyone thinks that it may be worthwhile getting a membership of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (Academy of Model Aeronautics), just to take advantage of their enhanced insurance options;
