Old Navy is an American clothing and accessories retailing company owned by multinational corporation Gap Inc. The Children's Place in Manhattan (now closed) The company was founded in 1969. It was acquired by Federated Department Stores in 1981. After Campeau Corporation acquired Federated, they sold The Children's Place to a group led by Joseph Sitt in 1988. They became publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange in 1997 under the ticker symbol PLCE.
Crazy 8 was started in August 2007. It featured lower-priced clothing and was Gymboree's direct competitor for The Children's Place and Old Navy. In 2010, Bain Capital acquired the company for US$1.8 billion. In June 2017, Gymboree announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In September 2017, the company emerged from bankruptcy.
