Films directed by Steven Spielberg have been the highest-grossing film of the year on six occasions, and on three occasions have been the highest-grossing film of all time. Steven Spielberg is the most represented director on the chart, with six films to his credit, occupying the top spot in 1975, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1989 and 1993.
Erasure achieved three top 10 singles this year, including their only UK number-one, the "Abba-esque (EP)", which topped the chart for five weeks. Richard Fairbrass (pictured in 2008) and his group Right Said Fred scored two top 10 hits in 1992, including their only UK number-one, "Deeply Dippy", which spent three weeks at the top of the chart.
The 1960s head the list with 26 films of merit for the decade. The most represented years, with four films each, are 1949, 1963, and 1996.
