When I worked for Illinois State Police in the 80s and early 90s we had 2 separate mobile radios – one high band w/Dist Channel and ISPERN and one low band w/Dist Channel and car-car. It seems that there is a lot more traffic on the frequencies today then back then.

For those of you too young to remember, in the days before the internet and this wonderful site Police Call was a book put out by Radio Shack every year, with a "complete" list of frequencies nationwide. I remember going to Radio Shack every year so that I could update my Bearcat 210 or 220 or whatever scanner I had at the time.

I was also looking at "Uniden BEARTRACKER 885 Hybrid Full-Featured CB Radio + Digital TrunkTracking" on Amazon for $350 but I don't think I would talk on the CB so I'd rather have a dedicated scanner instead. The Uniden BCD536HP looks nice but $600 is a little out of my price range right now.
