Most radio shops will add digital to licenses when making changes to save money and time down the road. Which format they. add will depend on whether it is public safety (mostly P25) or "other" (DMR, iDAS/NXDN) There is some crossover but P25 radios. are a bit pricey to buy if you don't need them.

Yesterday I was watching a movie made in 1950 entitled "Mystery Street." I like to watch old movies to see the stuff people used back then and even to get an idea of how they lived. This movie was shot in Boston, and it was interesting to see the police there using a 1950 Ford with a long antenna attached to a ball mount on the driver's side in ...

    60. Location. Evanston, IL. Dec 16, 2023. #1. When I worked for Illinois State Police in the 80s and early 90s we had 2 separate mobile radios – one high band w/Dist Channel and ISPERN and one low band w/Dist Channel and car-car. It seems that there is a lot more traffic on the frequencies today then back then.

Dec 15, 2016. Messages. 37. Nov 21, 2023. #1. I know the City of Dallas has had police and fire channels on their trunking system, but it seems police and fire were also on an analog 460 mHz system. There hasn't been any activity on those frequencies for some time. Was this just a simulcast or were they actively using it and the trunking system ...

  6. How many remember the "Police Call" frequency guide

Jan 30, 2023. #1. For those of you too young to remember, in the days before the internet and this wonderful site Police Call was a book put out by Radio Shack every year, with a "complete" list of frequencies nationwide. I remember going to Radio Shack every year so that I could update my Bearcat 210 or 220 or whatever scanner I had at the time.

I always listen to The Bridge Police and I live very close to the base of the bridge. They just went Phase 2 encrypted replacing their type II smartzone system. I always listen of course to channel 13 Marine as the ships would talk to the bridge for bridge openings and I would listen to the simplex 151 megahertz ancient secondary radio ...

I was also looking at "Uniden BEARTRACKER 885 Hybrid Full-Featured CB Radio + Digital TrunkTracking" on Amazon for $350 but I don't think I would talk on the CB so I'd rather have a dedicated scanner instead. The Uniden BCD536HP looks nice but $600 is a little out of my price range right now.

Rhinelander, WI. Jul 29, 2008. #1. I was just wondering if anyone has been hearing about a scanner that decodes encrypted (secure) radio traffic on a digital radio system. I hear of several instances in my area that people have been recieving encrypted signals on police scanners. A patrol officer heard himself on a persons scanner, so he double ...
