Executive Schedule. Executive Schedule ( 5 U.S.C. §§ 5311 – 5318) is the system of salaries given to the highest-ranked appointed officials in the executive branch of the U.S. government. The president of the United States appoints individuals to these positions, most with the advice and consent of the United States Senate.
The General Schedule ( GS) is the predominant pay scale within the United States civil service. The GS includes the majority of white collar personnel (professional, technical, administrative, and clerical) positions. As of September 2004 [update], 71 percent of federal civilian employees were paid under the GS.
If the agency does not have a certified system, the maximum pay is set at Level III of the Executive Schedule ($187,300 for 2022). Total aggregate pay is limited to the salary of the Vice President of the United States ($261,400 for 2022). Prior to 2004, the SES used a six-level system.
