There are a fair number of Level 2 chargers at various places around the N.C. mountains, often at visitor centers, breweries, and places to eat. Check out PlugShare. If you want to start in Cherokee, you may want to consider charging at the supercharger in Pigeon Forge, and then taking US 441 through Great Smokey Mountains National Park to ...
I have driven Blue Ridge several times. The Boone Japanese restaurant is owned by one of the first even Tesla P85, so early that his never even came with badging. In Asheville there are numerous lodging choices that have BEV charging available, and along the Parkway in both directions there are charging points making it easy to stop for a meal ...
While the list of National Parks, State Parks, Downtowns, Attractions we visited is too long to include here - some notables are: Big Sur, Pacific Coast Highway in CA, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Oregon Cost Highway, a few State parks in Washington State, Mount Rainier, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Chicago ...
Right now there is nothing between north Atlanta and mid TN/SC/NC with the exception of Chattanooga which is very northwest of the area. There is a lot of traffic between Atlanta and the mountain rentals all through the area. Places like Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Helen, Gainsville would be good candidates.
There are so many amazing places near Boone that going there and returning is an issue. Even taking the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Boone (or reverse) with added spots for hiking in Grandfather / Linville region would be a little worrisome to make it to the nearest supercharger in Hickory, especially with more people & in winters.
Rivian specifically mentioned the Blue Ridge Parkway as an area of emphasis for their RAN. I wonder if Tesla will try to match that to negate the selling point for Rivian. The RAN map looks like it's got a fast charger in or near Nantahala Gorge, 1 on each side of 441 through GSMNP, 1 in Asheville, and 1 in Boone-Blowing Rock area.
I was just telling my wife how people feel about the CCS chargers. I read where rivian has opened up five or six charging stations on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I got real excited about that, because we love to drive up there in the mountains. Come to find out that only rivian is allowed to use these chargers.
I live in the mountains W of Denver. I frequently get the warning 'regenerative braking temporarily reduced' when driving down the mountain. Does not seem to be related to temperature, or at least not exclusively. It may occur more often in very cold temps, but I'm not certain that this is the case. I need to test more....
Most of the trips I've taken have been on the flats. Admittedly, one has to go through the Appalachians if one is going East/West from the East Coast, but the Big Roads tend to stay flattish. And 2000' mountains are called, "Hills" out your way. And one doesn't cross those anyway unless one is going, I guess, down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It would not route me to Seattle. People are elsewhere pointing out the limitations of the Tesla navigation. Here the problem was that it was not accounting for, or not reasonable accounting for, how much range I'd gain on the way down the mountains down to Enumclaw. Evtripplanner did a much better job. Tesla should buy that site.
