Go to the downloads folder and the .exe file is there. I found a site where I was able to download MM 2.6. No need to answer the question. Windows Movie Maker 2.6 (WMM 2.6) is based off of the old WMM 2.1 from Windows XP.
Windows Movie Maker/Editor for Win 11. Since Windows 11 is now using Video Editor for their software rather than the old Movie Maker Software that was available back in the day to make slide shows, the new app has taken away the transitions function that used to be on Movie Maker slideshow software but is no longer available on the current ...
First, there is no "2.7 XP version". I think you are referring to the Windows Vista version of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 that is basically a CPU-only version using the XP code for those on Vista that didn't have a powerful enough GPU. The version after that is Windows Movie Maker 6.0 which had both a 64-bit version and GPU rendering of effects ...
A couple things: Movie Maker 2.6 is a very old version of Movie Maker. It doesn't handle many video types (specifically .mov and .mp4) so that's probably the problem. The latest version is Movie Maker 2012 (ver 16.4) which you should download and install.
If you are still interested in using a "classic" version of Movie Maker, I would suggest using Windows Movie Maker 6.0 instead of the older CPU-only WMM 2.6. It has the same traditional timeline as 2.6 so you should have no problems using it but it is designed to use your GPU and takes advantage of 64-bit CPUs.
Yes, you can run 2.6 but if you have a .mswmm file from. Vista Movie Maker 6...there is a downloadable version of. it you can install on 7: (FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System. Restore point before installing software or updates) Installing Vista Windows Movie Maker 6.0 on Windows 7.
WMM 2.6 is meant for Windows Vista users whose operating systems are unable to use the default WMM 6.0. WMM 2.6 is also for Win 7 users who dislike Windows Live Movie Maker and want the "old" WMM back. WMM 6.0 is still available for download., and it is still possible to install in Windows 10. I have mine installed.
I'm not sure where a download of Movie Maker 2.6 still exists. It's basically an update to Movie Maker 2.1 from XP so that it works on Vista or later.
The title says it all. Both Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and 2.1 are not saving my movies with titles on Windows 8. That is when I try to add titles on MM2.6 and 2.1 the screen is black and the movie won't save. This is only happening on Windows 8. Yet both WMM 2.6 and 2.1 are working on my other Windows 7 and Windows Vista laptops.
If you are just looking for the functionality of the "classic" Windows Movie Maker, I suggest you install WMM 6.0. It has the same look as WMM 2.6, but has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions as well as using the GPU to improve the speed of rendering. WMM 2.6 was designed back in the Windows Vista era for people that didn't have a good GPU.
