[ 3] As of the 2020 census, the county population was 30,223. [ 1] The county was named for James McPherson, a general in the American Civil War.

Added to NRHP. November 21, 1976. The McPherson County Courthouse in McPherson, Kansas is a historic three-story courthouse that was built in 1893. It was added to the National Historic Register in 1976. [1] It was designed by architect John G. Haskell. [2] : 29–30 The building was built in 1893.
