  2. Do professors care about their rating on websites such as ...

    academia.stackexchange.com/questions/101009

"However, these ratings are never taken seriously as an evaluation of effective teaching." -- PSA for students: If you want to provide suggestions for your professors, don't phrase it like an angry performance review; the angry rant + "failing grade" some people give professors is at best cathartic for them but not likely to help anyone (including future students).

  3. how much do you trust rate my professors? : r/college - Reddit

Rate my professor is one data point. It tends to work better for gen-Ed’s and weed out classes. It’s great for first years that need aggregated info about who to avoid. It’ll tell you if a professor routinely ask the class to stay late or locks the doors 5 minutes after class start. Reading the comments is more helpful than the rating.

  4. How reliable are rate my professor reviews? : r/college - Reddit

Rate my professor in my experience, can be useful. The most important thing is to keep in mind when looking through the website is that generally people leaving reviews on Rate my Professor feel very strongly, weather it be negatively or positively. Most people who had an okay experience will never bother to leave a review.

  5. Do y’all think Rate My Professor is accurate? : r/college -...

Take Rate My Professor with a grain of salt. People are more likely to leave a review when they had a bad experience. Also rely more on what the actual review says than the number. For example, someone may have put a bad review because they hate group projects, but you might like group projects.

  7. Rate my Professor is horrendous : r/CollegeRant - Reddit

That's fair, in my experience it's a hit or miss for professors with bad ratings and rarely a miss for professors with good ratings. It gives a good baseline. It's just, even when I've had a good professor in a course I want to give an accurate assessment of how they taught and overall experience. 350 characters does no one justice.

Spent the next few hours picking glass out of my hair and writing an email on my phone to my students explaining why I wasn't walking up and down the aisles answering questions. A few days later, a review popped up on RMP: "Professor _____ got hit by a car and still showed up to the final exam. You should respect and fear her."

Hey everyone, please put up some reviews on Rate My Professor if you have the time!! They are very helpful to everyone and give a more accurate reflection of a course under a certain professor.

  10. Rate My Professor in Norway? : r/Norway - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/Norway/comments/16ewke4/rate_my_professor_in_norway

A professor not getting students to supervise would not mean that he could not do research. I would care more for students getting a bad supervisor than for a professor not doing a good job. Not doing a good job could also be not being supportive for less gifted students, while being great with the super smart ones.

Rate my professor is an old site. Many teachers change during their careers. Try and look at reviews from the last 2 years only. Make sure you're looking at the class you want from that professor. Taking Nguyen for virology is a fun and challenging course with a great cooperative lab.
