OBD-II PIDs ( On-board diagnostics Parameter IDs) are codes used to request data from a vehicle, used as a diagnostic tool. SAE standard J1979 defines many OBD-II PIDs. All on-road vehicles and trucks sold in North America are required to support a subset of these codes, primarily for state mandated emissions inspections.
On-board diagnostics (OBD) is a term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability. In the United States, this capability is a requirement to comply with federal emissions standards to detect failures that may increase the vehicle tailpipe emissions to more than 150% of the standard to which it was originally certified.
ELM327. The ELM327 is a programmed microcontroller produced for translating the on-board diagnostics (OBD) interface found in most modern cars. The ELM327 command protocol is one of the most popular PC-to-OBD interface standards and is also implemented by other vendors. The original ELM327 was implemented on the PIC18F2480 microcontroller from ...
Foxwell NT301. The Foxwell NT301 struck us as a middle-of-the-road entry in our OBD-II scanner test. The screen is crisp and easily navigable, but it seemed a bit high-cost to justify a Best Of ...
VCDS (an abbreviation for "VAG-COM Diagnostic System" and formerly known as VAG-COM[ 2][ 3]) is a Microsoft Windows-based software package, [ 3] developed and produced by Ross-Tech, LLC since May 2000. Software that shows the health of the drive and its smart attributes. [ 1] Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology ( S.M.A.R.T., often written as SMART) is a monitoring system included in computer hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs). [ 2] Its primary function is to detect and report various indicators of drive ...
The data link connector (DLC) is the multi-pin diagnostic connection port for automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles used to interface a scan tool with the control modules of a given vehicle and access on-board diagnostics and live data streams. [1] Prior to 1996, many OBD-I data link connector's were in the engine compartment, usually near the ...
Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) is a diagnostic communication protocol used in electronic control units (ECUs) within automotive electronics, which is specified in the ISO 14229-1. [1] It is derived from ISO 14230-3 and the now obsolete ISO 15765-3 (Diagnostic Communication over Controller Area Network (DoCAN) [2]). 'Unified' in this context ...
