Depending on where your house will be located and the sun exposure some might not do as well during the winter. The angle is low and days are short. Full sun plants like succulents will struggle in winter without supplemental lighting, but in summer they should be OK. Winter heating will dry out more delicate plants however.

Reputation: 2824. HOAs definitely restrict what can and can't be planted in the front yard. They restrict anything done to the front of your house that can be seen from the street and permission to change something must be approved. Our HOA doesn't allow citrus in the front yard. Backyards are usually not limited much.

If you had that water from certain treatment plants the taste was noticeable. Totally safe, not that bad tasting IMO either, but I can see it being a gross out or deal breaker for some people. Thinking further, I rented a house in college that had suspect water quality, evidenced by the tint of the water; it wasn't a town water thing but ...

If you see a state trooper, tell the plants to duck. Actually, there is no checkpoint or inspection at any border, except with Mexico.

In the winter, you have the added issues of subzero weather. Your car may be toasty warm up front, but you can hit as low as -60 at times in the NW parts of Canada and Alaska. The back interior of your car packed with gear, may be well below freezing and house plants don't normally survive in those temps... 12-13-2009, 06:58 PM.

None of the HOA's in the area have Collin County type rules about which plants you can plant, what color to paint your home, what materials are approved for fences, etc. You definitely won't be able to buy in real Preston Hollow or the area between 75 & Tollroad. Median prices are around $600k there.

Perhaps planting a row of plants requiring near continual watering will resolve the issue. Bamboo, for example, is a wonderful privacy planting. Be certain to put a barrier down at least 18 inches on your side as bamboo can be invasive and is close to impossible to eradicate. Check with your HOA first, of course.
