The TF account would show his account balance on the site etc in a Unlimited/Paygo plan pattern, with Safelink benefits on top, and bought paygo plan buckets as the secondary or "other" plan on the bottom. If he ever ran out of Safelink minutes, text or data, the other paygo plan bucket immeditately took over.

He received new card with instructions to safelinkupgrades.com and in the same package, there's a separate sheet directing to activate, go to Tracfone.com. You can always let your current Safelink phone convert into a normal Tracfone, but you will have to buy days for it somehow. Then you just start the new Smartphone as a Safelink program phone at the beginning of the Month. You may have a problem with them wanting to keep/put the same Safelink phone number on the new phone.
