Evelyn Cisneros-Legate (born Evelyn Cisneros on November 18, 1958 in Long Beach, California) [ 1] is an American ballerina. Evelyn, who is Mexican American, is considered the first prima ballerina in the United States of Hispanic heritage. In 2003, Mearns became an apprentice with New York City Ballet. She was nominated for a Princess Grace Award and received the Mae L. Wien Awards that year.
