Nah, they want lead acid batteries pretty much exclusively. $8 for a 12 lbs battery is great, $8 for a 60 lbs battery sucks. I turned in a pair of 24v nicd to one of the younger guys and I don't think he knew the difference. Those came out of a cordless push mower, but they're closer to tool batteries than car batteries. Weighed about 10 lbs each.
32+core near me. Everstart Value series poster above me was referring to is 58 for most “common” sizes. Yes, was referring to biggest you can shoehorn in, especially with cheap batteries (just to boost the cranking amps a little).
AutoZone, from my experience it's hassle free when taking back a dead battery that still has warranty. Just recently they gave me a new battery when the one I had died 3-4 months before the warranty ended. I thought it would have gave me a discount or something but nope I got a new battery for free.
Well, my local scrap yard buys them but they dint pay all that great there is a battery recycler that pays much better. $3 for like lawn mower batteries , $6 for car, 9,+ for "commercial" . That was a while ago tho. I had worked out a deal with a work buddy to buy them off me 100 at a time. Reply reply. Crazykillerguy.
Walmart is also a reasonable alternative. If your battery fail before 36 month warranty, bring it back and you get a new one. Other places does prorated warranty and only apply the remaining credit toward the cost of the new battery. I found out this year that Costco no longer does three-year free replacement anymore.
For me, here in Jersey, there are so many tire shops that offer replacements for about $50-$60 and I can personally attest to the fact that those batteries will get you thru an entire winter at the very least, and if you really find a good tire shop, they throw in warranties sometimes.
I bought a Costco Interstate battery 1.5 years ago, and now it won't hold a charge. I thought for sure the alternator was bad since the battery was so new, but even after a full charge with a 10A charger, it was only at 10V. The previous battery in the same car (OEM) lasted 7 years before it needed to be replaced. 2.
If the battery is under warranty, you can just take it back to walmart for a replacement--some warranties are full replacement i.e. if the battery dies within a set time the replacement is 100% free. Others have a pro-rated replacement i.e. if the warranty is 50% over, then they reduce the cost of the replacement by 50%.
If my Costco Interstate battery died after two years, Costco would give me $56.63 back to buy a new battery. Walmart would give me...a brand new battery. EDIT Batfinder.com Walmart's website externally showed a $179.84 price, but Walmart.com has it listed as $169.84, so technically Walmart beats Costco by 15 cents.
Proper testing would be a voltage test when running, seeing 14.2 or more volts. Then testing once the engine is off, with the lowest voltage being recorded at 12.6. Then a load test with a proper device, especially if it's a car parts place. Most batteries will last roughly 4 years depending on how well they are treated.
