Lincoln Heights is home to six schools, two private and four public. Franklin Elementary, located at 17th Avenue and Mt. Vernon Road, serves the northern and central portions of the neighborhood. Lincoln Heights Elementary, at 23rd Avenue and Ray Street, serves the eastern areas of Lincoln Heights.
The current Lincoln Heights Elementary building, with a capacity of 440 students, opened in 2006 as part of an $85 million school bond program. In 2012 the school district considered closing the school due to issues with its budget, but the school remained open after a tax levy was passed.
The school was Lincoln School at first, Wallace School, Pleasant Hill School, Lincoln Heights School and Stewart Road School. The school closed for good on June 6, 1975, and is now totally abandoned and for sale. Lincoln Heights Elementary School (1035 Grace Street) - was built between 1948-1949 as a one-story school.
The high school has recently seen recent additions including a geothermal system and a new commons area. Lincoln Heights, Longfellow, Roosevelt, and Westmoor Elementary Schools also renovated their air conditioning and heating units, and Westmoor added several new classrooms for the '08-'09 school year.
