Fear is one way to prevent them from running across the room and fighting each other. Fear of the teacher is preferable to fear of violence/ bullying from peers. Yes respect is better, but also more difficult and tricky in some environments. A little of bit of everything is probably what the best teachers can pull off.

It’s funny, I ended up having a thing with a teacher at 16 in my final year at school. She wasn’t “creepy” at all. In fact, she was warm, sociable, relaxed and it was that that allowed her to effectively groom me into thinking what was happening was okay.
