I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy was kinda letting Conan have this moment. You can tell Conan is emotional revisiting the set and reminiscing. I also think Jimmy admires and respects Conan, as he mentions he was his first talk show appearance, so he probably wants to hear his perspective as much as the rest of us.

NBC then screwed Conan by locking him up with promising him the Tonight show so he wouldn't jump to another network like Letterman did. They then screwed Leno by showing him the door when Conan's time came. When Conan floundered NBC gave Leno a show before Conan and tried to fiddle with the Tonight Show's time slot. NBC was the bad guy throughout.
So by the the time Conan's Tonight Show came on chances were you already watched one late night talk-show as people were less prone to channel hopping in those days. NBC panicked and rather than part ways with Jay and let Conan work things out, they wanted to move Jay back to 11:30 and have Conan and the Tonight Show come on at 12:30.

First NBC put Leno at 10 p.m. with the Jay Leno Show. Ratings for that show and for Conan's Tonight Show were worse than they hoped for. Then they proposed pushing the Jay Leno Show to 11:30 p.m. and Conan's tonight show to 12 a.m. That's when Conan decided to walk. Leno then got back the Tonight Show at the usual 11:30 p.m.
I imagine it would be even shorter if Leno was just doing monologue and like headlines. If Conan took that deal he might still be doing the Tonight Show. On the plus side Jimmy Fallon would probably fade away. But on the negative Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend would probably never happen. And Late Night with Seth Myers probably wouldn't either.
It was a foolish mistake on NBC’s part to keep Leno on that was a big chunk of the issue. Leno was forced out, and they got greedy because they didn’t want to lose Conan to another competitor so they wanted all three Leno, Conan and Fallon on the same network. It was stupid and selfish and I think Conan is now getting the last laugh.
