Anyway, I think the following is a better method than using Terminal. In Finder, open the 'Go' menu and choose 'Go to Folder…'. In the window that appears, enter '~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates'. Here you'll see the download and be able to check/remove when it's done. I did find the size slow to update.

Many a times, when I download the files, it does not show up in Finder. However, when I do listing of directory from terminal window, it is shown. I am not able to figure out why. While having Finder open, go to the menu bar and select Finder > Preferences > Sidebar. In this section, make sure that Downloads is selected. This will make your Download folder accessible from the sidebar when using Finder. Another step you can try is to have Finder open and press the following keys at the same time: Command + Shift + H

Regards. Magnus. Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files: com.apple.finder.plist. com.apple.sidebarlists.plist. Then, restart, or log out and in again. (You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
