READ: Parts Express Orian 3-Way Bookshelf Speaker Kits Review. Shady, that is one of the most interesting reviews you have done for some time. That kit is on special now for $538.00 and so an incredible value. It makes me wonder if the designer has been following my posts here. I have some comments.
number one complete Unfortunately in the process of completing the second I opened the woofer and noticed the frame was bent, so all I need to do is literally screw in the woofer and the project is complete, but now im going to have to call parts express and have them send another one.
Anybody know of any other COMPLETE kits out there in the $1K range that would compete. I don't really have the tools or the skills for working with MDF, so I need a kit with a flat pack cab. fuzz092888
Looking at getting some speakers for my dorm room, and was exploring my options. I was thinking of going for maybe Axiom or Paradigm (or others in that range), but since I'm an engineer and like to build/take apart stuff, I thought that maybe a speaker kit would be the way to go. If I were to...
For nearly all DIY speaker builders I know, Parts Express, Madisound, and Meniscus Audio supply nearly all the parts. A Baltic birch flat-pack kit, with no imperfections, will cost $169 for each cabinet. A flat-pack kit, suitable for painting or veneering (there will be some football shaped patches) will cost $149 each. In both kits, a front baffle with 3/4" rounded over edges is available for an additional $15 each.
The lowest cost, most widely recommended kit that I know of is the Parts Express BR-1, sold at $150 a pair unshielded (part #300-640) or $160 for the shielded version (part #300-642). They occasionally go on sale for about $125 a pair. A well-known DIY designer, Dennis Murphy, has designed an improved crossover for the BR-1.
Here is some Relevant info to the DS-825's i have: None of the speakers are good, One of the connection terminals in the back is gone. But other than that, the cabinets are actually in solid condition, no moisture damage or anything. The ports are solid and other than the speakers and the one terminal (if that is the correct term for the Red ...
