Well, I still use Mee6 and I'm slowly weaning off. Like most people are saying, YAG bot is the best so far. I also finally started playing around with programming my own bot. I'm all for paying for a service if I need it. However most people who are ragging on Mee6 are people like myself who remember when Mee6 first made its debut.
MEE6 premium really is a premium service now. For the majority of server administrators, you can probably just fill the gaps with several free alternative bots instead. Just set them up once and you're good to go if its a small server with your friends.
Indeed, Mee6 has become a greedy platform. Starting off with (what I believe) was their NFT scam, now this. I personally banned it from my own small community server (which unfortunately I had to shut down due to severe inactivity and my incapability to support it) due to it being utterly useless.
However, just as there's something special about German cars that sets them apart, Mee6 has its unique edge. While the best choice might be a custom made bot, supported by robust hosting and MongoDB, the costs can be significant. A complex bot that hasn't been put through rigorous testing can cost over $1,000.
Used Mee6 in my server for few years to ping everyone when new youtube video is posted, recently got a new channel and went to change the bot and find that the feature has been locked behind paywall meaning I can't change feature that was once free
