To pay with Apple Pay using your default card, hold your iPhone within an inch of the contactless reader with your finger held on Touch ID without pressing it. It depends on what card you have as your default card. If you have a debit card then you must use the PIN for that card. If you are using Apple Cash as the default the PIN is 0000. Sometimes Apple Pay asks for a PIN when paying. It rarely happens but it's always at the same stores.
