Some iPods (like my 4th gen Photo) can't directly get into diagnostics mode, and you have to first put the iPod into disk mode. To get into disk mode, first hold the center and top (menu) buttons until the Apple logo appears, then immediately hold the center and bottom (play/pause) buttons until you see the disk mode indicator in the display.
Dear iPod nano owner, Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006. This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect.
Nov 16, 2018. 333. 435. May 17, 2019. #1. Recently I picked up a 1st generation iPod Nano in decent condition with some accessories and the box. I charged it up and it's fine. It sounds pretty good too and is a nifty, portable device. I like it a lot, but I have a question of concern.
I was doing a little research on the 1st generation iPod nano's and I'm just curious as to what my iPod is worth. I have a 4GB black 1st gen iPod Nano that was manufactured in August of 2006, and is still sealed in box. However, none of ...

When I elected a subset of my library and sync, it works just fine, but if I attempt to sync all my music (which WILL fit if converted to 128k) it performs the sync, then as soon as its safe to disconnect, it reboots.
Sep 4, 2008. #4. I'm trying to replace a busted clickwheel/audio jack in a 2nd gen myself, and unfortunately the iFixIt guide does not have a set of instructions for that piece. Their 1st gen Nano guide does, which is a shame. I think I will be winging it tonight, as the thing can't get any worse than the completely broken it already is.
Feb 3, 2020. #2. I believe the Nano supports Disk Mode. which to activate you hold Center and Menu until the screen goes black, then you need to hold Center and play/pause buttons until it shows the disk mode screen. iPod_14.1.3.1.ipsw Here's a link to the latest firmware for the first-gem Nano straight from Apple.
Sometimes when I grab to get my Nano (fully charged), it has troubles turning on. I have to plug it into the computer to start it up, and get the Apple logo before it starts up. Any reasons for the cause of this?
