Dunant (submarine communications cable) Dunant is a private 250 Tbit/s 6,600 kilometre transatlantic communications cable that connects the United States ( Virginia Beach) with France ( Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez ). Named for Henry Dunant, it was announced by Google in 2018 and went live in 2020. [1] [2]

Cable layer. A cable layer or cable ship is a deep-sea vessel designed and used to lay underwater cables for telecommunications, for electric power transmission, military, or other purposes. Cable ships are distinguished by large cable sheaves [1] for guiding cable over bow or stern or both.
TE SubCom was the selected provider for the project. The cable is 10,556 kilometres (6,560 mi) long and has six fibre pairs with an initial capacity of 64 Tbit/s (Terabits per second). The cable is operated by four telecommunications companies: Algar Telecom, Angola Cables, ANTEL, and Google.
This technology was developed in co-operation with SubCom, formerly a TE Connectivity company, who built the cable and which also worked with Google on the Dunant and Curie cables. The cable route comprises a 6,250 km stretch from New York to Widemouth Bay, Cornwall and a 6,300 km route between New York and Bilbao.
