Their battery packs are much different design now. They had 1000 cells in each “blade” pack and had 7 blades total. They sent us several thousand batteries for mock up. Quite a few were left in our storage room. Yes, simple cells found in cordless drill packs. X7000. I have a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with about 61k miles.

Most regular batteries have served their useful life after 5 years. If this is the original battery you got more than your moneys worth from it. JPerez1978: tow truck driver said this happens all the time. Suggest to not depend on that diagnosis. Most likely causes are either the 12 volt battery isn’t being charged properly (hybrid control-system problem), or 12 volt battery is draining overnight b/c something remains turned on.
Lexus is the most reliable and longest lasting luxury car. Consumer Reports had an article on long life of cars a few years back. A couple had a Lexus 400 sedan with over 400,00 miles on it. Original owners, well maintained. The Rx models are not quite as reliable but light years better that any corresponding Mercedes, Jaguar or Land Rover models.

Ten years at least and the cost would probably around $3000 or so plus installation. There are so many hybrids on the road now that there are firms who rebuild those batteries. That would cost a lot less. The Toyota Prius has the most road experience and most that are used as taxis report 300,000 miles or more of trouble-free operation.
The Prius is head and shoulders above any other hybrid car on the market, so expect it to have typical Toyota life expectancy which I have witnessed can be up to a million miles under the right circumstances. Budget for a new battery every 10 years at $3000 or so.
