FISHING REPORT. PRO MEMBER. 59°. River Channel. Went out in that crazy wind with my son yesterday afternoon for cats. I couldn't fish 80% of the spots on my Spring milk run, so I tried some areas that typically yield low results. The best for boat positioning was tying up to a downed tree and fishing below it.
Waning Crescent. I'm not sure when we will see a west wind again. I was out yesterday 4pm till dark and caught 5. The first one was 6.5 lbs and the other 4 were about 16 to 17" . I don't know why I had so many small ones. I was using 2 down riggers about 50' down. and a dipsey. The I lost 2 .
Rig the fly 18-24 inches behind a 8- to 10-inch paddle. Start at 30 inches and shorten the leader as the water warms up. Fish are more lethargic in cold water, so start trolling slow and speed up as season progresses and the water warms. If you run flies, the longer the lead, the more lag and lack of activity from the fly.
