Interstate 290 (Illinois) Interstate 290 (I-290) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway that runs westward from the Jane Byrne Interchange near the Chicago Loop. The portion of I-290 from I-294 to its east end is officially called the Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway. In short form, it is known as "the Ike" or the Eisenhower.
Originally was a "T" Shaped route from Harrisburg to Elizabethtown and a leg south to Golconda and a ferry went to KY-297 across the Ohio River. Extended to Benton and to Rosiclare in 1937. Part of this is now IL-146. Used from Mound City to US-51, barely 1 mile long, to serve a federal cemetery.
