  2. Gear ratio vs. Line retrieve - 2 Cool Fishing Forum

    www.2coolfishing.com/threads/gear-ratio-vs-line-retrieve.227920

The spool circumference is what determines this. If you have a taller spool it will pick up line faster, even with a slower gear ratio. Its simple math really. If you wrap something around a spool such as line, a taller spool (greater circumference) will pick up more line per revolution than a shorter spool (less circumference).

Did a little math and the 17p Turbo1 prop acts a lot like a standard 18.75pitch prop which is my problem. Turns out a given pitch from one manufacturer or line of props is not equal to that same pitch from another. Looking at the math, a 19 pitch Talon SS prop is within an inch of the 14 pitch aluminum Talon prop.

Follow the math. Same displacement motor-200 makes 200 at xyz RPM. 250 makes 250 at same xyz rpm...just a different tune. 200 torque curve comes on earlier with a flatter HP curve. 250 torque curve is flatter with a peaking HP curve. It's in the math and tuning....given same displacement. Manufacturer will tell you same thing.

Curlew as transport YES on transporting to wade fishing area; boat apparently runs very shallow and can pole thru shallow water but much more ungainly and bulky and less responsive than the narrower, very lite technical skiffs from what I understand.
